The Science

Every ingredient. Every mg. No exceptions.

Every True Bowl formula starts with a documented gap, not a guess. Here's the standard we hold ourselves to.

The gap

What a home-cooked bowl is quietly missing

Most Indian dogs eat home-cooked meals — rice, dal, roti, the occasional piece of chicken. Made with care, but structurally incomplete against what a dog actually needs each day. Research on home-prepared diets backs this up: the large majority test nutritionally incomplete against NRC and AAFCO standards.

Two problems make it worse than it looks. Chicken and rice carry far more phosphorus than calcium, and dogs need close to a 1:1 balance of the two — every meal like this deepens a calcium deficit the body quietly corrects by pulling from bone. And the phytates in rice and roti bind to zinc in the gut, so a meal that technically contains zinc still delivers almost none of it.

None of this is a failure of love or effort. It's a gap between what home cooking was built for and what a dog's biology requires — and it's the exact gap every True Bowl formula is built to close.

~3 IU from home food needs 102 IU
Vitamin A −204 IU
~80 IU from home food needs 284 IU
Vitamin B12 −6.3 mcg
~0.3 mcg from home food needs 6.6 mcg
EPA + DHA (Omega-3) −230 mg
~20 mg from home food needs 250 mg

Our standard

We formulate against a published standard, not a marketing brief

Every True Bowl formula is benchmarked against the NRC's Nutrient Requirements of Dogs — the reference standard used across veterinary nutrition — and cross-checked against AAFCO guidelines. We don't dose to zero intake from food; we dose to the actual, documented gap between what a home diet provides and what the standard calls for.

Every dose sits between the minimum requirement and the safe upper limit for that nutrient. Enough to matter. Never enough to risk.

Where two products can meaningfully affect the same nutrient — say, zinc or manganese — we track the combined dose across your dog's full True Bowl routine and keep it inside safe limits, not just within any one pouch.

From formula to bowl

Designed and manufactured in True Bowl's certified facilities and manufacturing units.

Every ingredient is sourced human-grade, and every batch is produced in a GMP and FDA certified facility built for human-grade supplement manufacturing — not repurposed animal-feed lines. That's a deliberate standard, not a regulatory minimum.

Each stage — raw material intake, formulation, production, and the finished batch — goes through its own quality check before anything moves to the next step. Nothing ships without clearing all of them.

Vet-reviewed

Every formula is checked before it goes anywhere near production

Ingredient selection and dosing are reviewed against peer-reviewed veterinary nutrition literature and signed off by veterinary professionals before a formula moves to manufacturing. True Bowl products are preventive nutraceuticals, not medicines — for a diagnosed condition, always talk to your vet.
